substitute for carapils dextrine malt 4 EBC

HI all, after brewing beer without specialty malts, now I want to start using blend of malts for my Pilsner, according to my recipe
91.2% Pilsner malt 2 ROW, 2 EBC
5.4 % Cara-Pils Dextrine Malt 4 EBC
3.4 % Munich Malt Germany 20 EBC
but the problem is i can find out lat two malts, is there any substitute por those malts? I hope u can help me

The EBC (European Brewing Congress) color number is basically twice the L or Lovibond color number used in the US. So Munich 20 EBC is the same as Munich 10L, a very common malt. Carapils is a malt I personally hate, and I would worry less about the color number. I don't know your malt suppliers to know what you can get, but mashing at a higher temp with Pilsner malt will get you a little closer. You may be able to find powdered dextrine. A real Pils shouldn't need those malts.

I agree that cara-pils should be deleted from this reciepe. This malt was created by Briess and many others have tried to reproduce it without success. It has a place in craft brewing but didn't exist when most of the classic beer styles were created. This is ultimately the call of the brewer, and what his/her intent is in creating ether a classic beer or something else? If you wish to use Cara-pils you will have to find a Briess supplier.

Wow, I thought that I was alone in a dislike for carapils. I have been very happy with Weyermann products. Carafoam is similar to Carapils. Kind of like comparing a Ford escort to a BMW 3 series. The Weyermann Munich type I should also substitute well for the Munich 20.

Weyermann Carapils and Carafoam are one and the same - they choose to use the Carafoam name in markets where Carapils might already be trade marked. Either way, a very good malt where you want that extra bit of body and head retention.

I did not know that. I was under the impression that Briess was the only malting company to produce a carapils. I know, stupid american. With that said, substitue my comparison of carafoam vs carapils to Weyermann vs Briess.
