I am looking for a 2 or 3 bbl system to get a small brewery sandwhich shop open. Located in a communty that appreciates the beach and take out. It is a way to get started with specialty beers and such. If you have anything let me know. Would like to get this and other parts of the project off the ground asap. Thanks. Have a great day, Brian

let me know if you come across anything.
I am also looking for a 2bbl system and also considering
fabricating a glorified homebrew system myself.
Maybe we can convince someone to design us such a system
and fabricate 2 such systems at one go.

thanks!

I went own to PA yesterday to look at a 2 BBL system that was put together by Guy at 1 Guy Brewing. It was a great visit. He cobbled it together with a lot of used equipment from the restaurant and brewing trade. His advise was get an idea as to what you need and that if you see something buy it. Things do not last long. At two bbls you do not need alot of the bells and whistles and can use manual labor to do alot of jobs. I like the idea and it does work. It is a very mobile system. I have to also say he makes some very good beer down there.

Any chance you or he have some details of his "design". Photos, etc. Sounds like the kind of thing we are trying to figure out. Very encouraging news, though.

I've been searching around for a few weeks now, and that 2-3 bbl range is a tough area to shop for manufactured systems.

I've talked to a few "nanobrewers" and I know of two that have modified the 20-gallon B3 systems for 1 bbl batches.

Stainless Steel Specialists makes a 2HL system, but it has a base price around 35k. Ouch.

Have you checked out the www.Minibrew.com site?

ever think of using 55gallon stainless drums as a base and custom designing from there?

Heh. Thanks for all the interest in what I've put together.

And you have the distinct honor of America's smallest reporting production brewery. :D

Just remember; when In-Busch comes knocking, just say no thank you.

thanks for those links, i am finding it helpful to see what is available in this 2bbl universe. most restauranteurs won't be very willing to shell out $100k+ these days and might lose interest in a $10K homebrew system that might make the whole enterprise seem shoddy. Strictly dollarwise (all else aside) 2bbl system installed for $20k, does that seem like the right price point?

skip fabricating a 55 gallon drum. Why not buy these in the 55 gallon variety and with false bottom or strainer.

those can be your HLT, mash tun, and kettle all for like $2800. The trick will be finding 2 bbl fermenters. You might find that double batching into some grundies might be your best bet for fermenting. And for chilling you can use two of these in series -- that way you can run them at full flow and still hit your pitching temp.

Thanks Joel,

There are so many combinations and ways to get a small system going. I looked into the blichmann pots and systems and they do interest me and it has been a consideration. I was looking for a system that produced more beer in one session but if this is the route then it is the route. I was just thinking that with so many people working to get beer out into the market and space being costly, in my area esp, a small pilot brewery of 2 bbl would fit in in so many ways. I am still looking for the pieces that will give me that. I have been at this for months and just want to get all of the right info and then pull the trigger on it. All of the info that I have gotten is very helpful. Maybe it is a matter of getting the small independent minded individuals together to hash out the needs then finding the pieces that fit the puzzle. Thanks again for the thoughts and links. Anymore advice or ideas are appreciated.

I see it comes with a Disintegrator - very useful for them pesky Revenooers.

If it is to disintegrate I hope it doesn't take out the whole woods, still need the trees. Thanks for the laugh and the posts. Seems like the 2 or 3 bbl systems are a big item these days. Why is this and why are they not produced in numbers?
