Ceramic Filters

We have been using a variety of filter cartridges over the years. We have heard from some people to check into a "ceramic" filter. After limited research, this seems to be a vary viable alternative to traditional filter medium. Has anyone had any experience using ceramic filter medium, if so what was the result?
