I know that there is a formula for figuring out the calories in a specific beer but I have not been able to find it anywhere. If anybody could help I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
HI Ray:
You asked about calculating Kcal in beer:
Kcal/12 oz beer:
alcohol w/w X 6.9 = A
real extract - Ash X 4 = B
A + B = C
C X 3.55 X specific gravity = Kcal/12 oz
In the past I used .15 as Ash factor, based on analysis
at time in Frankenmuth, MI.
I hope the forgoing is of help to you.

Hello Fred and everyone,
Fred,
Would you please (or any one else) please explain to me what is an "Ash factor"?
Thank you.

I have not heard of the ash factor myself, but I guess it is an allowance for the mineral salts in the beer. As it seems quite high, I wonder if this also includes an allowance for non fermentables such as proteins and hop resins - but would ould welcome clarification myself
