Due to the popularity of the 2004 class this year we’re hosting 2 classes, so you have an option of times to attend. The 1st class will be held Tuesday, September 6th from 10am-5pm and Wednesday, September 7th from 8am-5pm. The 2nd Class will be held Thursday, September 8th from 10am-5pm and Friday, September 9th from 8am-5pm.

Location: Hopunion CBS, 203 Division St., Yakima, Washington

Some topics and activities will include:
* Dry hopping (how the timing of dry hopping affects beer)
* Interactions of yeast with hops
* Hops in Belgium beers
* Hops: what they are, what they do, and using whole hops, pellets,
oils and extracts;
* History of hops;
* Learning how to evaluate hops by assessing different lots and
varieties that have arrived at the warehouse by this time.
* Tours of warehousing, pelletizing, and receiving of hops at the
Hopunion facility;
* Ranch tours where you can see the hop fields, and witness hop
picking, drying and baling -- and meet some of the growers who are
also the owners of Hopunion;
And other hop and beer related topics to be added to the schedule.

Instructors/speakers scheduled include Tomme Arthur, Pizza Port; Ron Ryan, Cargill Malt; Chris White, White Labs; Vinnie Cilurzo, Russian River; Tom Nielsen, Sierra Nevada; Ralph Olson, General Manager/Owner of Hopunion CBS and Ralph Woodall, Sales Manager for Hopunion CBS.

Cost: $100. This price also includes continental breakfast, lunch and dinner for both classes. All local transportation in Yakima will be provided. Travel to Yakima, hotel and personal expenses are your responsibility. Space is limited to 50 per class. Please register no later than August 12th to reserve your space for the class you would like to attend. Subject to availability.

Fred- You can never know what it's like until you stand in the hopyard surrounded by 20 foot tall hop vines... for acres around you. Then to be in the hop kiln with the air richly laden with the sweetest perfume one could ever imagine...
Sorry, there may still be flights available...

Hello Fred,

Thanks for the message. Actually I have taken talks on the road. Have done talks for number of years, but is is so much better to see everything. As Brian mentioned, there are the fields and we do have the class during the picking process. Also you get to see recieving first hand along with warehousing and the pellet plant. These are the things that are so neat to see for yourself.

A lot of people can't make it to Yakima and threfore can bring at least the flavor of hop picking etc to a class located elsewhere. If anyone wants to help put together a meeting where they would like for me or Ralph Woodall to do a presentation, please let me know.
