I was wondering if anybody had experience with a good anti-mold agent to clean brewhouse floors with? I have always just kept up with it, with periodic bleach sessions. For some reason, with all these household shower anti mold sprays, I believe there is something we could use to cut down on the frequency of the bleach sessions. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jordan

You could try to talk to your chemical supplier too. I bet bleach is about as cheap as it gets though. You have to use the shower cleaner every day, and that stuff is expensive.

Have you tried to get at the root of your mold problem so to speak. If you can get the floor as dry as possible after brewing, for instance squeegee to a floor drain and follow with a well rung mop, with some bleach in the bucket if you like. Increase your ventilation too and then the mold will not even have a chance to grow, or any other nasties. IMHO you should clean the floor at the end of every shift anyway.

Talk to your chem rep and get a simple quaternary ammonia and a foam gun. It hooks to a hose and you just foam the entire brewery and walk in and let it drip dry. Once a week will keep mold growth under control.

Does anyone have any experience with non-chemical solutions, such as steam ?

how about just seal the floor, and do some regular cleaning?

I have a nasty mold problem on my glycol piping coming from the roof. I dont have a loop up top and it's constantly circulating so I have condensation like a mad man. With that constant wetness comes a thick nasty caking of mold and I just cant seem to shake it. I replaced the insulation but it only helped for a couple of weeks. I'm sick of scrubbing this nasty stuff every other day! So yeah, I would like some info too please on anything good thats out there.

Our glycol insolation is pretty much constantly condensating this time of year, which creates some slick floors. Nothing a deck brush and a little used caustic from a tank cleaning can't take care of. Quadra-Quat keeps the molds down.

McMaster-Carr has a nasty anti-microbial (and any other living thing) product in gallons that will keep mold away for weeks if not months. Read the warnings on the label...

Thanks for the responses! I am going to look in to the mcmaster carr product as well as the simple quat ammonia. Yeah so basically the problems are from glycol condensation and lack of ventilation. The floors are epoxy and it just seems from friday to monday I come in to a nasty... slimy(along with black mold) puddle behind the fermenters. It tries to stink as well which is what I really want to correct. Thanks again and I will let you know how things work out!

From the Birko (http://www.birkocorp.com/prodesc.asp?type=ANTIMICROB) website:
Quadra-Quat
A 7.5% active, four-way quaternary ammonium (quat) sanitizer/ disinfectant. Being a four-way quat means that Quadra-Quat is more effective against a broader array of microbes than normal two-way quat compounds. Quadra-Quat is registered with the E.P.A. and is allowed for post-rinse sanitizing at 150 ppm.

We even spray our dumpster with this stuff.
