We have an issue where our casks are stored in our main beer cooler on 5' high stillage and the beer engine is mounted on the bar. The beer engine is just low enough that when the casks are very full, we get a siphon created and the beer engine leaks until the level in the cask gets lower. Is there some kind of gizmo that can require the beer engine to not pour unless it's actually being pumped? Or is there any change there's something wrong with our beer engine?

Yep there is a gizmo, we have them on all of our engines.

I prefer p/n#40050 Non-return valve for $34.50 instead of the check-valve @ $63.75. Your mileage my vary...

I looked at those, but thought they were to prevent beer from going back into the cask, not to prevent it from leaking out the engine. Am I wrong?

As far as I can tell they serve the same purpose on a normal short-run installation. The non-return valve has the same "pinched" silicone/rubber check-valve that a sankey coupler has on the co2 side, only larger. It maybe enough to stop your siphon problem. Are you sure all the pump seals are in good working order?
