News Craft Beer Leads the Way in On-Premise Analysis

A detailed analysis of draft beer sales over a 12-month period through March of this year shows that draft beer handles are continuing to increase in the on-premise across the US despite a continued slowdown in overall on-premise beer sales.

Craft beer was the clear leader overall on draft with a 43.4% volume share for the period. Domestic premium was second with 26.4% volume share followed by imports at 14.7%. Craft was able to increase its total distribution points by 8.1% through the 12-month period.

The analysis, conducted by Draftline Technologies and CGA by NIQ, shows that there are now 300,104 licensed outlets across the US as of March 2024, an increase of 1.4% versus March od 2023. This is encouraging news that shows the on-premise business is growing (albeit slowly) despite the many market challenges. Approximately 180,000 these on-premise businesses sell draft beer.

The data was not so encouraging for beer overall, showing that there was a 2.5% drop in overall beer sales by value in the on-premise for the 12-month period.
