Hope for a new year with stronger beer sales didn’t start well as the Beer Institute published its unofficial estimate of taxable removals shipments by beer brewers for January 2025 which clocked in at a disappointing -8.7%. The decline represents a total of slightly over a million barrels.
The January 2025 estimate of 10,550,000 barrels is a decrease from the 11,551,511 barrels shipped in January 2024.
Full year 2024 saw a decline in shipments of -3.45 which was a drop in shipments of 5,158,895 barrels.
Beer sales in the US have been down for three full years. Beer volume was down 4.7% in the off-premise for the 12 weeks through February 23 according to Beer Marketer’s Insights. And it doesn’t appear to be improving with off-premise beer sales down 6% for the last 4 weeks 10% in latest week.
