Pioneering California craft brewery Anderson Valley Brewing Co. has been listed for sale. The Mendocino County brewery, founded 37 years ago, is listed at $7.9 million which includes the 47,600 square foot production facility and the 29-acre parcel of land the brewery sits on.
The brewery was founded by Ken Allen in 1987 in the town of Boonville with a 10-barrel brewhouse located in the Buckhorn Saloon. The company expanded to its present location which now includes a brewhouse with separate 100-barrel and 85-barrel boil kettles as well a 9-barrel pilot system. Annual capacity is listed as 100,000 barrels. The property has a “beer park” that includes a 10,000 square foot lounge lawn, an outdoor music stage and an 18-hole disc golf course.
Allen sold the business in 2010 to HMB Holdings, an investment group led by former United States Beverage executive vice president Trey White. At the time AVBC was selling about 26,000 bbls annually according to the Brewers Association (BA). White grew sales to more than 50,000 barrels by 2015, according to BA estimates. In 2019 White sold the brewery to local industry veteran Kevin McGee who teamed up with his father Michael McGee to purchase the brewery.
The listing touts the versatility of the brewery which “can continue as a brewery and event space, could be modified for use as a winery, distillery or any combination of the three.”
It is said to be the world’s first solar powered brewery with a 125kWh solar array that offsets about 50% of the power needs of the brewery and has a self-contained and managed water system.
The brewery is being listed by BizQuest and states that gross revenue is $4.2 million. The real estate itself if valued at $5.4 million.
