News Athletic Brewing Buys Ballast Point Production Facility in San Diego

Athletic Brewing Company, the largest non-alcoholic beer producer in the US has purchased the 300-barrel Ballast Point brewing facility. Ballast Point beers, owned by Kings & Convicts will reportedly be contract-brewed by an undisclosed brewery.

The acquisition of the 107,000 square foot facility includes the brewing system, packaging line, QC lab and business offices. It will provide abundant brewing capacity for the fastest growing brewery in the country, doubling its current capacity of 500,000 bbls a year.  The company has grown 62% year-over-year in the last 12 months and is now the 20th largest brewery overall in the US after launching just 6 years ago.

Athletic has said they will take at least 18 months to upgrade the facility to make non-alcoholic beer and add a 1,200 can per minute canning line.

It’s not the first foray into San Diego for Athletic who purchased the Ballast Point sour beer and barrel-aging facility in 2020 which is across the street from the brewery that Athletic just bought.
