Cambridge Brewing recently announced that it was closing its doors after 35 years in business, but it now appears that the Cambridge brand will live on. The pioneering brewery has sold its intellectual property to Castle Island Brewing Company in nearby Boston.
Cambridge began partnering with Castle Island earlier this year to help meet draft demand for the popular Amber Ale and Flower Child IPA. Apparently, that relationship solidified the deal between the two companies to keep the Cambridge brand alive.
“Our mission is to preserve everything fans love about CBC while slowly growing its reach,” says Adam Romanow, founder and CEO of Castle Island in a Facebook post. “You’ll still be able to find CBC beers on tap at area bars and restaurants, plus at CIBC taprooms in Norwood and South Boston. Eventually, the hope is to get cans back on shelves throughout Greater Boston.”
Cambridge, the second brewpub to open in the state of Massachusetts, announced in August that they were closing down so that founder Phil Bannatyne could retire.
After the busiest week in the history of the brewery last week, Cambridge will have its last day of business on Friday December 20th.
