Non-alcoholic beer is the fastest growing segment of the beer industry right now, so itโs no surprise to see brewers extending their reach in the category. Deschutes Brewery, in partnership with Patagonia Provisions is releasing Kernza Golden Brew, the first organic non-alcoholic beer brewed in the US.
The beer will be available beginning Sept. 4. The beer uses a certified organic Kernza grain, certified organic Helios and Adeena hops, certified organic malted 2-row barley, and Regenerative Organic Certified rye.
Deschutes makes all of its non-alcoholic beer in-house rather than contracting out. The Bend, Oregon brewer uses Sustainable Beverage Technologiesโ (SBT) patented BrewVo technology in combination with Deschutesโ proprietary brewing methods.
Patagonia Provisions is the food and beverage business of outdoor apparel company. They have been working with a number of craft brewers in developing beers made with perennial crops like Kernza which are beneficial to the environment. They protect soil from erosion and improve soil structure, increase ecosystem nutrient retention, carbon sequestration, and can contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
โAs brewers, we turn barley, Kernza, and hops into tasty drinks that bring people together,โ said Peter Skrbek, CEO of Deschutes Brewery in a press release. โBy working with farmers to eliminate chemicals, conserve water, and improve soil health, we can make a big impact. Weโre excited to partner with Patagonia Provisions, who share our vision for better farming and great beer for every lifestyle. Together, we aim to revolutionize the beer supply chain and promote regenerative organic farming.โ
Non-Alcoholic Kernza Golden Brew will be sold in 6-packs of 12oz cans.
