San Diego’s Modern Times Beer has named Jennifer Briggs as its new chief executive after the company’s former CEO Jacob McKean stepped down in May amid #MeToo-like social media posts about toxic work environments for women in the craft beer industry.
Briggs, former vice president of human resources at New Belgium Brewing in Colorado, sat on the board of Modern Times. She aims to usher the brewery beyond not only last spring’s Instagram controversy but also the damage caused by COVID-19 over the past two years.
McKean, who founded Modern Times in 2013, stepped down as CEO after the brewery was called out in more than a dozen Instagram posts for having a hostile work environment for women and people of color, with complaints ignored by management.
